The XMP certification is valid for two years from the date you passed the exam. During that time, you are expected to demonstrate a continuing commitment to growing your expertise and staying current on new developments and trends within the profession.

To maintain certification, you are expected to complete 20 hours of professional development in the form of XM education or XM community support, with no more than 10 hours from any one of the categories defined below. These activities can be focused on XM or any of the four experience domains (customer experience, employee experience, product experience, or brand experience), and they can be hosted by an external group, part of an industry conference, or provided by your own company.

The XMP recertification application will ask for a listing of these activities and related hours of participation. You will need to keep track of the sponsor, title, the date(s) that you participated, the number of hours that you participated, and the experience category of the content for each activity. The XMP recognizes five categories of professional development activities.

You will be notified of your upcoming renewal date via email. When you are ready to submit your application for recertification, you will do so on XM Basecamp. There is a recertification fee of $195. Upon successful recertification, XMPs will receive an updated certificate and digital badge credentials valid for another two years.

The XM Institute will audit submitted recertification applications for accuracy and completeness. If the audit discovers that an applicant submitted any incorrect or inaccurate information, then, it can result in the loss of an applicant’s right to apply for or to maintain this certification, even if it has been previously awarded. Please review the certification’s Terms and Conditions for complete details.

You can find more detailed information on the recertification requirements and standards in the updated XM Professional Handbook.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I log my professional development hours?

You can only log your hours when you are ready to apply for recertification, and you will do so on XM Basecamp. As you complete these hours, keep a personal record of your activities. We will ask you to include: the sponsor (e.g. Qualtrics, CCXP, etc.), title, the date(s) that you participated, the number of hours that you participated, and the experience category of the content.

Do I get credit for training that covers XM platforms?

No. The training must focus on the discipline of XM or one of the four experience domains. For example, training on best practices for implementing an employee listening program would count, but training on how to execute that program in, say, Qualtrics would not.

How do I count my time preparing for training, speech, or webinar?

You may only count the time spent attending or delivering training, speech, or webinar toward your professional development hours. Time spent on preparation or homework does not count.

Will XM Institute notify me when my XMP is going to expire?

Yes. You will receive an email from XM Institute one year before, six months before, three months before, and on the day of your certification expiration. If you have not received these emails, please check your spam folder and then contact info@xminstitute.com if you would like to receive them.

What happens if I let my certification expire, but want to recertify?

If you let your certification expire, you will have a 30-day grace period after your expiration date to complete the application for recertification.
